Terra Studio was founded in 2001 to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to place-making. Located in Center City Philadelphia, the firm’s work includes residential and commercial architecture, streetscape design and community planning in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We believe outstanding design begins with careful investigation of the specifics of place and social context.

Our mission is to integrate human needs and activities with the constructed and natural context and create a shared sense of place in the world. We seek resonance between the lives of those for which we build and the structures we define. We are fascinated by the flow of human experience and are committed to the design of environments that support a meaningful pattern of interaction and movement. We celebrate the inherent change of human life and strive for an architecture which can ennoble our lives with the quiet poetry that speaks of being present in time and place.

Each Terra Studio project evolves through a process of collaboration, which can entail detailed exchanges with individual clients or a series of public participation events. We find inspiration in patterns of social interaction, neighborhood context and characteristics of the natural setting. Our intent is to reinterpret these aspects to create places that are both evocatively familiar and surprisingly different. We believe successful design can enrich our lives by connecting us with our environment and forming meaningful relationships between individuals, community and location.
